The Romulan V5 class starship, a light freighter and courier vessel, holds a unique place in the annals of Romulan space engineering. Designed primarily for cargo transport within the boundaries of Romulan territory, the V5 class was an essential cog in the logistics and supply chain of the Romulan Star Empire.
The V5 class starship measured 128 meters in length, with a height of 46.5 meters and an impressive wingspan of 147 meters. Its design was a striking departure from the more combat-oriented Romulan Bird of Prey. The actual fuselage of the V5 was relatively short, comprising only about half of the ship's total length. The remainder of its length was attributed to its elegantly swept-back wings and elongated nacelles, which trailed behind the main body of the ship. This design choice not only gave the V5 an imposing silhouette but also contributed to its aerodynamic efficiency.
In terms of speed, the V5 class was slightly slower than its combat-focused counterparts, cruising comfortably at Warp 3 and capable of reaching a maximum speed of Warp 5.2. However, this maximum speed was sustainable only for about an hour, limiting its use for quick, strategic maneuvers rather than prolonged chases. Despite its size, the ship boasted large impulse motors, which provided exceptional sublight speed and maneuverability, a feature that often surprised those unfamiliar with its capabilities.
The V5 class was designed with a clear focus on cargo capacity. Most of its interior space was dedicated to cargo holds, leaving relatively modest accommodations for the crew. The ship could be operated efficiently by a small crew of 3 to 5 members. However, it was versatile enough to be modified for single-person operation, a testament to its user-friendly design and automated systems.
As a vessel not intended for frontline combat, the V5's armaments were minimal, equipped with two forward-facing plasma beam cannons for basic defense. The absence of rear weaponry and relatively weak shielding were indicative of its non-combative role. The ship was designed to avoid conflict rather than engage in it, relying more on its speed and maneuverability for defense.
The primary role of the V5 class was to transport cargo and colonists within Romulan space. It played a vital role in the expansion and maintenance of Romulan colonies, often carrying essential supplies and personnel. Due to its operational territory, encounters with the V5 class were rare for members of other factions, contributing to its somewhat enigmatic reputation outside the Romulan Star Empire.
In service from the early 23rd century, at least one V5 class vessel, the Ailix, was known to still be active in the 24th century, until its eventual crash-landing on the planet Delta Zephus 5 in 2354. This longevity in service speaks to the durability and reliability of the design, qualities highly valued in the logistics and transport vessels of the Romulan fleet.

I needed a non-warfare Romulan ship. It's not as detailed as I'd normally make it, because I wanted it to fit the TOS/TMP era. The overall design was inspired by the Romulan V1 Starglider, a FASA design.
